: munich olympic posters

Thes series of posters from the 1972 Munich Olympics are quite beautiful. I have been saving the images on my desktop for over a year now, and am always so taken back when I see them come up on my screen - as if it was the first time I had seen them. The purity of their design, modern simplicity and what seems like now "old-school" techniques are very striking.

: nytimes innovation portfolio

I am often sending out emails sharing and showing off the latest work done by the folks at NYTimes in the interactive space. They have some amazing work to show off. Take a look at this new collection/site showcasing that work.
They also have a deep understanding (no surprise I guess) of how to make information more engaging for today's news junkies and those who may not always be as interested. They always work extra hard to take vasts amounts of information and turn it into interactive visualizations that educate, inform, and engage. It's great inspiration for some of the work we do. Also, if we are going to receive news differently in the future than in the ways we do now, I think there are some hints in this collection that point the way.

: subway series

Gonna head over to Fort Point Channel tonight to check out this exhibit opening. A friend of a friend started taking pictures with his iPhone on his daily commute on the Red Line and posting them to Facebook. His name is Dejan Djordjevic and it looks like he caught the attention of a local gallery and now finds himself with a show and lots of media attention from the local papers. What a great story. Cant wait to see all the images.

The Accidental Gallery 300 Summer St., Boston, MA - tonight from 5:30 to 8pm. Let me know if you're interested in going.

Check out some more information in this article on boston.com. Its about halfway down the page - "Dorchester resident captures candid moments of commute on T’s Red Line"

: tineye beta

"TinEye is a reverse image serch engine. You can submit an image to TinEye to find out where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions of the image exist, or to find higher resolution versions. TinEye is the first image search engine on the web to use image identification technology rather than keywords, metadata or watermarks."

This is new to me. Pretty cool idea and it works! I did a reverse search on this image uploaded from a local file, and it found it on the site JPG where it was published. I know sometimes we need to backtrack a stock photo and this could help. On the other hand, if you are using someone's photo illegally without the rights - watch out. The original creator is gonna find you. Honestly, they probably should.

: sixth sense

If you have not seen this yet, take the 8 minutes and 45 seconds and check this out. It is pretty mind-blowing and all done down the road at MIT.  We often talk about not always designing interactions for the web and that the future will bring digital interactions to every detail of our lives. Well, here is a glimpse.

: adidas miCoach U.S.A. launch

It's finally here. miCoach has launched in the U.S. and is on sale here for the first time. Get yours now! It's been a long time coming after three years of working on this project. The screen below shows what the adidas.com USA home page looked like today. Just below that is the newly designed miCoach homepage to coincide with this launch and some new branding/campaign work. Awesome work everybody!

Also, some really nice words about our site design on the FAST COMPANY web site today. These words are music to my ears and illustrate that all of our hard work has really paid off in creating a rich yet easy to use experience. This is much, much harder than it sounds.

  • “The Web site, which was created by adidas along with Molecular, does not miss a step--it's intuitive, fun to use, and keeps pace with almost everything a runner needs.”

  • “The Web interface coupled with these devices is often where they trip over their laces, but not in this instance. The miCoach site is easy to navigate, and includes just about everything you need in order to track and improve your running.”

  • “The Adidas miCoach Pacer is the most full-featured and enjoyable personal training device on the market.”

: ypu

This is a great organization that we used for the miCoach 1.0 site. It allowed us to get some really unique photography at a very reasonable cost. It's a great resource, and you should keep it in mind for your work going forward. It is especially good if you are trying to achieve that non "stock" photography look as they focus on young and unique talent.

Young Photographers United "has a different approach. Instead of pushing one particular photographer for one particular shoot; we provide a group of extraordinarily talented photographers, in a largely web based platform that gives us the chance of working around the world. As a collective of 150 we can work on a larger scale than any single photographer could do alone. YPU works hard to generate new opportunities where our photographers can shine and express their talents."

: green screen

Saw this on ChaseJarvis.com blog. I knew that much of what we see in video, movies and tv is completely fabricated, but I guess this is pretty eye opening as to how much of it is totally made up. Check it out. I wonder what kind of magic we could create with a green screen, a camera and some video production equipment. Ideas welcome.

: 1,000 true fans

This is a great article from Kevin Kelly at KK.org not debunking, but offering an alternate path to the "long tail" theory for singular creators such as independent artists. Simply put…

"A creator, such as an artist, musician, photographer, craftsperson, performer, animator, designer, videomaker, or author - in other words, anyone producing works of art - needs to acquire only 1,000 True Fans to make a living."
